George Allen - Virginia Senate

George Allen
Among the incumbents in hotly contested races, Sen. Allen has the best record, earning an "84" rating on the Club's 2005 scorecard, solidly above average. Allen authored or co-authored the most recent bills to ban taxes on the Internet and to authorize a line-item veto statute. He supported all the Bush tax cuts and their extensions.
Allen led the fight for free political speech this year. When the House passed legislation designed to gag nonprofit groups like the Club, Allen organized a letter to Majority Leader Bill Frist threatening to filibuster the bill if it got to the Senate floor. Despite pressure from the Senate and House Republican leadership, Allen never wavered. The seven Republicans who ultimately signed the letter effectively killed the bill. His opponent, Democrat James Webb, supports rolling back the Bush tax cuts, opposes school choice, and is against personal accounts for Social Security. Labor unions, MoveOn.org, and liberal blogs are going all out to help Webb. And The Washington Post has been relentlessly playing up every campaign accusation against Allen.
The fight for control of the Senate could come down to this race, so please support Sen. Allen's campaign with a generous donation.
